The council has expressed its gratitude to all the town and parish councils that participated in the recent consultation regarding the proposed name change. The feedback received played a crucial role in the decision-making process.

Following a delay due to a recent cyber incident, it has been confirmed that on Tuesday, 3 September, members of the council voted in favor of renaming it to North Gloucestershire Borough Council. This decision, made during an Extraordinary Council meeting, is seen as a key step in strengthening the borough's identity and ensuring fair representation for the diverse communities across its 160 square miles.

The consultation, held from 17 May to 31 July 2024, gathered 1,608 responses, making it one of the council’s largest ever consultations. The results showed that 86% of respondents understood the rationale behind the proposed change, with 58.6% supporting the new name.

As part of the rebranding efforts, a new logo, chosen by the public during the consultation, will be introduced. The design symbolizes the unity of local communities, the building of connections, and the natural beauty of the borough.

Local councils are encouraged to share the news of the name change, which will take effect in January 2025, with their residents. The decision to explore the name change originated from discussions about the Council Plan, where concerns were raised about the confusion between Tewkesbury Town and the wider borough. The name ‘North Gloucestershire Borough Council’ was selected to better reflect the geography and diversity of the area.

The new name and logo are expected to raise the profile of the borough both regionally and nationally, helping to promote economic development and attract investment while preserving the unique character of the area.
