Gloucestershire County Council has launched a public engagement phase on potential route options for a significant improvement scheme around M5 Junction 9 and the A46 through Ashchurch. The scheme proposes a new M5 Junction 9a, located south of Tewkesbury, as well as a realignment of a section of the A46 between the M5 and the Teddington Hands roundabout. This project aims to address long-standing traffic issues, enhance journey times, and establish vital infrastructure to support current and future transportation needs.
This engagement phase marks the initial stage in assessing possible routes, and any further development or refinement will depend on Ministerial approval and additional funding. A preferred route option, if the project progresses, will only be selected after future public consultations.
